These are some old photos I've managed to dig out from my days at ravensbourne college.  Times times times

Cerberus

I  was Influenced majorly by the graffiti artist, bo130. The top image was used for the hip hop artist Cerberus' first EP release. Below are some of the experiments and developments I went through as well as the individual head illustrations that I did separately before connecting them to form the 3 headed beast.

Portraits

These portriats were done as experiments after the movement brief opened my eyes to this particular painting style. Combining stencils and abstract expressionism to produce an almost reproduced photograph confining the expressive painting style. The pieces themselves where created in layers of paint so their is some relief and texture to them, which I think helps to give depth to these portraits as they involve such a high constrast, with no subtle blend between vibrant colours.

I didnt really enjoy making these pieces I say "making" instead of painting because it invloved using different types of digital technology to produce. It felt distant from what I believe to be the pure skill of painting, especially as I relate the painting style loosly to abstract expressionism.

And here I'm painting other people so it doesnt reflect this effectively. However I dont consider myself as a painter at all, rather an illustrator so I believe these portraits do infact serve a puspose to communicate clearly whith a unique charm to the person I painted in particular.

This particular piece (above) was a commitioned portait of the client's granson. Showing how accessible this style seems to be.

Movement

Jackson pollock probably would turn in his grave of he saw these but I really enjoyed studying his work for these paintings. I made a film of people dancing to their favorite tracks and then took screenshots. The most expressive movements were then contrasted in stencil form with the abstract expressionst style backgrounds. If I ever use paint I just want dash it everywhere.

These are just some sample pages I scanned in from some of my old sketchbooks. At the time I was influenced by the "everyday" and as that consisted mostly of daydreams it manifested itself in these ridiculous drawings. I did most of my drawings on the train so it helped to steady my hand, this probably was the way I began to build on my line pattern work. Though it was so fucking long ago I can't be too sure.
